A local pop/punk band that has big plans, and an even brighter future, are Keep Em’Keen. The band was initially formed in early 2010 by guitarist Mike Cockayne, drummer Ben Brennan and bassist Rich Wallis. They soon began writing material, whilst searching for the right people to complete the line up.
The band was soon introduced to vocalist Jade Donno. Having been successful in various local talent competitions, and being recognised locally for her singing ability, it was a simple decision that Jade would take on the role as lead vocalist. The band would be complete as soon as a name was settled on and the final band member found. After going through hundreds of potential ideas for names, the band agreed upon “Keep ‘Em Keen”. Out of all the scrawled ideas on the ice cream box, this was the most memorable and felt like the perfect fit.
The final piece of the puzzle came in the form of guitarist Luke Mansell-Ward, who was recommended to the band by vocalist Jade. With all 5 members in place the band were now ready to take on the local music scene. Armed with early material, new influences and their perfect sound, they started work on heading straight towards their first gig in a local music competition.
This early passion has allowed the band to come along way in such a short space of time. To date, they have played shows with various well known local bands including Depth, Underline The Sky, After the Ordeal and Rules Of Romance. They have also recently secured an endorsement from SadPanda, a well known clothing company within the Bury/Cambridge area.
The band is currently working on their debut EP “Still No Change”, due for release in February 2011. With their debut EP, various planned gigs, and raw talent, we are confident this is a band that you can mark as a must see not only next for year, but also for the far future.
